We have been thinking of using virgin coconut oil (VCO), but not very sure on how dogs will respond to its coconut smells. After testing it on Belle, I've been feeding her a tablespoon of VCO mix with treats and she seems to like and doesn't mind the smell, I'm confident that other dogs will love it too!
VCO has more nutritional value and health benefits compare to canola oil that we've been using so far. VCO is one of the few oils that is not damaged when heated to temperatures used in cooking, frying, and baking (source: naturalhealthstrategies.com). Some of the benefits of VCO includes: it can potentially reduce cancer risks, improves the digestion of your dog, keep the thyroid function normal, give your dog a smooth glossy coat, as well as healthy, supple skin. Yeast and fungal infections are also treated and prevented through the use of coconut oil. Arthritis and similar pains can also be minimized or treated. Coconut can also balance your dog’s metabolism rate to keep his weight under control (source: dogingtonpost.com).
A lot of the sources i've looked into said that virgin coconut oil is a miracle oil due to its health benefits. Now, Belle's Barkery is infusing a little miracle in its treats ^_^ Cheers to health and longer life of our adorable fur babies!
